Anna Cabrera and Angel Albarrán are photo-chemists working in the darkroom: as inventors of new printing techniques and with the help of experimental processes, they are constantly expanding their “photographic syntax”: photography serves them as a tool to explore the concepts of identity, memory and time and the subtleties of consciousness to understand reality better.
The works on display span the last 10 years of their creative work: from gelatin silver and platinum palladium prints to their famous luminous color landscapes on Japanese Gampi paper and gold leaf. Also on view are their most recent works: complex carbon prints and prismatic abstractions of polarized light. The exhibition testifies to the investigative power of the artist duo, both technically and in terms of content. After all, it is also the choice of print technique that tells the story of a picture to the end: Whether pigment, silver, carbon, cyanotype or platinum – the artists choose for each work from a wide range of processes and materials that give the print a special touch and for the technique typical texture and color quality.
In their own words: “At first we photographed with the simple intention of recording what we saw. But soon our interest shifted from capturing the superficial appearance of reality to investigating its ‘underlying structure’. Thus, photography has in this way become the perfect philosophical tool with which to understand the world and our images are the by-product of that investigation, the notebooks of our research.”
Albarrán Cabrera’s works fascinate art and photography collectors worldwide: they are highly aesthetic, full of philosophical and art-historical references and, moreover, of tactile and sensual quality. After almost 8 years of representation of the artist duo, we are pleased to present a second comprehensive solo exhibition in Zurich.

Anna Cabrera und Angel Albarrán (ES) sind brillante Fotochemiker in der Dunkelkammer: als Erfinder neuer Printtechniken und mit Hilfe experimenteller Prozesse erweitern sie ihre “fotografische Syntax” permanent: Die Fotografie dient ihnen als Instrument, die Konzepte von Identität, Erinnerung und Zeit zu erforschen und die Feinheiten des Bewusstseins besser zu verstehen.
Die gezeigten Werke umfassen die letzten 10 Jahre ihres kreativen Schaffens: von Silbergelatine- und Platin-Palladium-Abzügen bis hin zu ihren berühmten leuchtenden Farblandschaften auf japanischem Gampi-Papier über Blattgold. Zu sehen sind auch ihre jüngsten Arbeiten: komplexe Karbon-Prints sowie prismatische Abstraktionen von polarisiertem Licht. Die Ausstellung zeugt von der investigativen Kraft des Künstlerduos, technisch wie inhaltlich. Denn schliesslich ist es auch die Wahl der Printtechnik, die die Geschichte eines Bildes zu Ende erzählt: Ob Pigment, Silber, Carbon, Cyanotypie oder Platinum – die Künstler wählen für jedes Werk aus einer breiten Palette von Verfahren und Materialien, die dem Print eine für die Technik typische Textur und Farbqualität verleihen.

Albarrán Cabreras Werke faszinieren Kunst- und Fotografiesammler/innen weltweit: sie sind hoch ästhetisch, voller philosophischer und kunsthistorischer Referenzen und darüber hinaus von taktiler und sinnlicher Qualität. Nach fast 8-jähriger Repräsentanz des Künstlerduos freuen wir uns, eine zweite umfassende Einzelausstellung in Zürich zu präsentieren.
