Alicia Velázquez and Claudia Kübler - It's a Spring Show

Ruettimann Contemporary is pleased to present “It’s a Spring Show”, an exhibition of recent works by the Spanish artist Alicia Velázquez and Swiss artist Claudia Kübler.

Alicia Velázquez (*1969) and Claudia Kübler (*1983) share the exploration of the various and perception-related concepts of time via a vast array of artistic practices.

Alicia Velázquez‘ focus lies on ritualistic performances and installations driven by culture and identity. Due to their personal and intimate character they often include aspects of body art. Recently, Velazquez created a series of sketch like drawings each expressing a fragmentary reality reflecting specific encounters, actions, and dynamics which occurred in the moment of their making. The presentation is completed by a detailed handmade ceramic sculpture featuring topics Velázquez is currently exploring.

In many of her works Claudia Kübler questions the concept of ‘deep time’. She thereby refers to temporal dimensions which largely exceed the human horizon in terms of longevity and durability. The work series ‘You are Here’ revolves around an installation made from sedimentary rock originated from a South African region otherwise known as the ‘Cradle of Humankind’. The artist manually and painstakingly pulverized the red rock herself to lay out the icon of online maps indicating ‘you are here’. Kübler thus fashioned a heterochronous work which she extended onto works on paper.

Ruettimann Contemporary concurrently exhibits works by Aoife Dunne, Simon Ledergerber, Hannah Parr, Valentina Pini, and Ingo Rasp across the two floors of their 150 sqm space.

Opening hours Thur-Fri 1.30 – 6 pm, Sat 12 – 5 pm, and by appointment
