Jeff Bailey Gallery is pleased to present Amy Talluto, “Bonewhite Light”, an exhibition of new drawings.
Talluto draws the landscape, usually near her home in rural New York, sometimes elsewhere. Forest walks or highway drives provide moments for discovery: hillsides, quarries, hedgerows and streams reveal unusual shapes, personified forms and an unexpected symmetry.
It is this moment of recognition that Talluto captures, fusing memory with observation to make a portrait of the landscape. Banal stretches come alive, and something extraordinary is found in the mundane.
“I paint not what I see, but what I saw.” – Edward Munch
This is Amy Talluto’s first exhibition with the gallery. She has had solo exhibitions at Roos Arts, Rosendale, NY; Black and White Gallery, Brooklyn; and Rowland Contemporary, Chicago; and her work has been included in numerous group exhibitions. She has been an artist-in-residence at Peaked Hill Trust, Provincetown, MA and also at The Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild, Woodstock, NY. She received her BA from Washington University, St. Louis in 1995 and her MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York in 2001. She lives and works in Hurley, New York.
