- Vittorio Santoro: Rhinocéros / Bérenger: Book Cover
Fabienne Ruppen, curator at Kunstmuseum Basel in conversation with Vittorio Santoro.
The reference of this project is to be found in the artist’s renewed interest in the play “Rhinocéros” (1959) by Eugène Ionesco. This interest was activated by the current polarized social and political climate. The publication contains images of the featured works in the recent exhibition at Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover, conceived in the last four years, as well as archive and research material that triggered the conception of them, such as the play itself, the seminal book “Psychologie des foules (The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind)” (Paris, 1895) by Gustave Le Bon and quotes from current newspapers and magazines. It includes an essay by Rebecca Geldard dealing on the main issues of the show.
