Series of Exhibitions of Young Art

Katharina Anna Wieser (b. 1980) is making an installation conceived specially for the Aargauer Kunsthaus. With a piece reduced in terms of material and formal language but extravagant in its technique, the artist is placing a hanging object driven by a clockwork motor in the top-lit room.

All of Katharina Anna Wieser’s works emerge from an intense engagement with the respective exhibition situation. For her precisely situated site-specific installations she uses simple materials to set perceptual processes in motion. She prefers to investigate the situation of walls, floor, ceiling, windows or stairs which define the architectural space. With her new work for the Aargauer Kunsthaus Katharina Anna Wieser continues the artistic engagement that she has been pursuing for several years, involving dynamism and movement.

For the series of CARAVAN exhibitions, Katharina Anna Wieser has chosen the stairway in the top-lit room of the Aargauer Kunsthaus. The wire cable, weighted down with a stone, stretches like a drawn line from the eye of the spiral staircase through the room to the top floor. This lengthy pendulum acts as a drive for the clockwork mechanism and makes the object floating over the stairs rotate. The two spinning, black painted bodies are extremely reduced, to a line and a circle. In her formal language the artist refers to Constructivist art, which is among the highlights of the permanent presentation of the collection and a focus of the holdings of the Kunsthaus.

Katharina Anna Wieser’s kinetic object informed by the dialectic between heaviness and lightness, volume and plane, movement and balance. The suspended object picks up the dynamic of the prominent Kunsthaus spiral staircase and transfers it to the exhibition space. The temporality of the work is experienced through the fine ticking of the clock and the slow downward motion of the pendulum in the eye of the staircase.

Katharina Anna Wieser, born in Zurich in 1980, lives and works in Basel. 2003-2006 training in art and communication at Lucerne College, 2001-2003 foundation and basic course, HGK Luzern.

Ausstellungsreihe für junge Kunst

Katharina Anna Wieser (*1980) kreiert eine eigens für das Aargauer Kunsthaus konzipierte Installation. In seiner Materialität und Formensprache reduziert, in der Technik aufwändig, platziert die Künstlerin im Oberlichtsaal ein von einem Uhrwerk angetriebenes, schwebendes Hängeobjekt.

Jedes Werk von Katharina Anna Wieser entspringt einer intensiven Auseinandersetzung mit der jeweiligen Ausstellungssituation. In ihren präzis situierten ortspezifischen Installationen nutzt sie einfache Materialien, um Wahrnehmungsprozesse in Gang zu setzten. Bevorzugt befragt sie Wände, Boden, Decke, Fenster oder Treppensituationen, die den architektonischen Raum definieren. Mit ihrer neuen Arbeit für das Aargauer Kunsthaus führt Katharina Anna Wieser ihre mehrjährige künstlerische Auseinandersetzung fort unter dem Einbezug von Dynamik und Bewegung.

Für die CARAVAN-Ausstellungsreihe hat Katharina Anna Wieser den Treppenaufgang im Oberlichtsaal des Aargauer Kunsthauses ausgewählt. Das mit einem Stein beschwerte Drahtseil spannt sich – vertikal einer Zeichenlinie gleich – vom Wendeltreppenauge ausgehend durch den Saal im Obergeschoss. Dieser überlange Gewichtsantrieb bringt das mechanische Kirchturmuhrwerk von 1887 in Gang, welches wiederum das über der Treppe schwebende Objekt in Rotation versetzt. Die beiden sich drehenden, schwarz bemalten Körper sind äusserst reduziert, eine Linie und ein Kreisfläche. Die Künstlerin bezieht sich in ihrer Formensprache auf die konstruktive Kunst, die mit zu den Höhepunkten in der permanenten Sammlungspräsentation zählen und einen Schwerpunkt des hiesigen Bestandes bilden.

Das kinetische Objekt Katharina Anna Wiesers ist geprägt von der Dialektik von Schwere und Leichtigkeit, von Volumen und Fläche, von Bewegung und Balance. Das Hängeobjekt nimmt die Dynamik der prominenten Kunsthauswendeltreppe auf überführt diese in den Ausstellungsraum. Mit dem feinen Ticken der Uhr und der langsamen Abwärtsbewegung des Pendels im Treppenauge wird das Werk in seiner Zeitlichkeit erfahrbar.

Katharina Anna Wieser, geboren 1980 in Zürich, lebt und arbeitet in Basel. 2003-2006 Ausbildung im Fachbereich Kunst und Vermittlung an der Hochschule Luzern, 2001-2003 Vorkurs und Grundkurs, HGK Luzern.
