- Christiane Feser: Partition 120, 2019, Photo object with archival pigment print, 55 1/8 x 39 3/8 in
Gitterman Gallery is proud to present an exhibition with Von Lintel Gallery of Christiane Feser’s recent work from her series “Partitionen”.
Christiane Feser’s “Partitionen” is an ongoing series of unique three-dimensional photo objects that are assemblages of repeated forms represented through photography and paper construction. The repeated forms are assembled in a dense pattern and collectively evoke an abstract work that seems filled with an organic energy. Simultaneously representational constructions and optical experiments, they lead us to question our perception of what has form and what is a representation of that form.
The constructions in this exhibition begin as assemblages of paper shapes in gradations of black and white that are lit and photographed. The image is printed and then cut-open, folded, punctured or otherwise added to; transforming the flat print back into a three-dimensional object with its own sense of time and space.
Feser was born in Würzburg, Germany in 1977. She studied photography at the Offenbach University of Art and Design in Germany. Feser was recently included in the exhibition “Cut! Paper Play in Contemporary Photography” at The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, CA. Other museum exhibitions include the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Centro di Cultura Contemporanea Strozzina, Firenze, Italy; the Mönchehaus Museum, Goslar, Germany; Frankfurter Kunstverein and the Museum for Konkrete Kunst, Ingolstadt, Germany. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts, the Mönchehaus Museum and the DZ Bank Art Collection among others. The artist lives and works in Frankfurt, Germany.
