Almost all the subjects Corinne Güdemann paints are based on her own photographs. She usually synthesises several photographic perspectives in her paintings, developing a composition that strikes her as interesting. This takes place through a process of drawing and is then further developed using layered glazing. Looking at the preparatory sketch for Alpenrose, one can see a tentative line that captures what she has seen. It is noteworthy that the small shrub, which occupies a central position in the drawing, is shifted slightly to the left in the painted version. This slight imbalance creates greater tension and heightened dynamism — a boon to the artistic storytelling, which naturally draws the eye from the alpine rose to the people in the upper right-hand third of the picture.

Corinne Güdemann – Gespiegelter Horizont
Fast alle Sujets, die Corinne Güdemann malt, basieren auf eigenen Fotografien. Meist bringt sie mehrere fotografische Ansichten in ihren Bildern zu einer Synthese, arbeitet ein Gemälde heraus, das ihr interessant scheint. Dies geschieht im Verlauf eines zeichnerischen Prozesses und wird danach mit der schichtenden Lasurmalerei weitergetrieben. Schaut man sich die Vorzeichnung von “Alpenrose” an, erkennt man einen suchenden Strich, der fast tastend das Gesehene fasst. Bemerkenswert ist, dass der kleine Strauch, der sich in der Zeichnung in zentraler Position befindet, in der gemalten Version etwas nach links verschoben ist. Diese leichte Dysbalance bedeutet mehr Spannung und gesteigerte Dynamik: Ein Plus für das künstlerische Storytelling, das den Blick wie von selbst von der Alpenrose zu den Menschen im rechten oberen Bilddrittel führt.
