Eguchi Ayane - Cosmos of Color

Mizuma Art Gallery is pleased to present “Cosmos of Color,” a solo exhibition by Eguchi Ayane, her second solo show at the gallery, following her debut in 2022.

Eguchi’s work explores the interplay between beauty and eeriness, life and death – contrasting ideas that nonetheless find harmony in her distinctive artistic world.

This exhibition will primarily feature new works inspired by millefleur, a decorative motif of countless interwoven flowers.

Artist’s Statement:

“When you look up at the night sky, though they may vary slightly in brightness, the stars appear as countless specks of light. In reality, each one is unique, with its own appearance and mass.

The same could be said for people. From afar, a group of people might seem indistinguishable, but when you engage with each person, the differences between them become overwhelmingly vast. Sometimes, recognizing those differences can be exhausting – it reminds us of how fundamentally difficult it is to truly understand one another. But if you take a step back, people once again appear “human” and it is easy to see that, in the end, we are not so different from one another.

When referring to the universe, the word cosmos can signify ‘order’, yet there are also elements of ‘chaos.’ If these two opposing words can both represent the universe, then painting a field of flowers, depicting human figures, or even drawing bears might all, in essence, be part of the same creative act. I painted familiar flowers as if I were painting the cosmos itself.”

Eguchi’s paintings bring a universe to life on the canvas—the raised textures, dynamic movement, and luminous surfaces forming microcosms of color and light. We invite you to experience these worlds firsthand and immerse yourself within them.

To coincide with this exhibition, Eguchi Ayane will release her first-ever collection of works. It will be available for purchase from the opening day of the exhibition at Mizuma Art Gallery.
