Have Sanity

Spread across three locations on the premises of Sihlquai “Have Sanity” in a very expanded sense looks at the topic of sanity. The word sanity from the 16th century Latin word sanus implies being rational and having ‘soundness of mind’. The title might be reminiscent of some kind of good wishing for others, as in “Have faith” or “Be Good” but here rather as a made-up wish “Have Sanity.”

The exhibition comes as a reflection on the many ethical considerations that we’ve been exposed to during the pandemic, such as the politics of choice, neoliberal rhetoric, biopolitics, self-care and mental health, spirituality and death. The positions, both new site-specific works and works dating back as far as 1972, have allowed us to relate to and grapple with many of these current topics. Varied in its approaches the exhibition features video, sculpture, installation and textile-based work which oscillate in different directions be it in their formal or conceptual attitude.

Two of the spaces are visible through the windows making it partially accessible to be seen during this period of lockdown.

There will be no public vernissage yet we intend to have a midissage or finissage if possible. Because of the new measures our exhibition space is not open during its usual opening hours. It is still possible to visit the exhibition by appointment. The following suggested measures are to be followed.
