Thierry-Goldberg Gallery is pleased to present “Hiding in the Bushes”, a group exhibition of eight outsider artists from France, featuring Paul Amar, Chaix, Patrick Chapelière, Anais Eychenne, Joël Lorand, Marilena Pelosi, Jean-Christophe Philippi, and Ghyslaine & Sylvain Staëlens.
The idea for “Hiding in the Bushes” came up during a summer visit to Galerie Les Arts Buissonniers, an outsider art space directed by Pol Lémetais in a small village called Saint Sever du Moustier in the South of France. The gallery is a cultural extension of a non-profit association, which was established in the 80’s in order to rejuvenate the local community. Both a museum with a permanent collection and a separate commercial gallery, Les Arts Buissonniers mounts exhibitions of Art Brut, Art Singular, Unconventional and Marginal Art made by a close-knit community of artists from nearby villages, the rest of France and from abroad. The whimsical name of the space Les Arts Buissonniers makes a reference to artists who ‘skip school’ and the title of the exhibition “Hiding in the Bushes” nods to the same reference with a loose translation to English.
