- Danielle Orchard: Joy Of Life, 2017, oil on canvas, 40 by 30 in
Monya Rowe Gallery is pleased to announce a group exhibition titled “Moving, Still” featuring paintings by Hilary Doyle, Laurie Nye and Danielle Orchard.
“Moving, Still” embodies the fraught duality of what is perceived versus what is real. Intimacy, routine and the mundane are approached with empathy and an underlying tension. Private moments in public spaces reveal a rich interior self in Hilary Doyle’s paintings of quotidian moments, such as waiting for a train. Traces of routine and the banal are transformed into existential brooding. Laurie Nye’s organic geometric shapes suggest an alternate reality and Danielle Orchard’s scenes of intimacy and solitude possess an undercurrent of anxiety and hidden psychological pressure.
Hilary Doyle received a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Boston, MA and a MFA from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI. Her work has recently been included in group exhibitions at Field Projects, NY and Erin Cluely Gallery, Dallas, TX. Doyle recently completed a residency at Mass Moca, North Adams, MA. The artist lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
Laurie Nye (b. 1972, Memphis, TN) received a BFA from Memphis College of Art, TN and a MFA from California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA. Her work has recently been exhibited in group exhibitions at Fivecar Garage and The Pit, both located in Los Angeles. Nye lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
Danielle Orchard (b. 1985, Fort Wayne, Indiana) received a BFA from Indiana University, Bloomington and a MFA from Hunter College, NY. Her work has recently been exhibited at Thierry Goldberg, NY and in a group exhibition titled “Try to Smoke it” at Taymour Grahne, NY curated by Holly Coulis. In 2015 Orchard was a B.C. Schapiro Resident at The Corporation of Yaddo, Saratoga Springs, NY, and in 2013 a Fellowship Recipient at the Dedalus Foundation, NY. Orchard lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
