Jean-François Boclé, Hayden Dunham, Susanne Hofer - Beyond Being

Thierry Goldberg Miami is pleased to present “Beyond Being”, a group exhibition with works by Jean-François Boclé, Hayden Dunham, and Susanne Hofer. The three artists on view, whether with a sculpture, video or installation, present an object in the process of progressing beyond its corporeal materials into something else.

Jean-François Boclé turns everyday objects into metaphorical installations awash with political and historical associations. By manipulating the quotidian, Boclé highlights societal dialectics like capitalism and consumerism, privilege and injustice, appropriating text to make new forms that question presumptions about our collective political consciousness.

Creating complex visible and invisible systems, as well as discrete objects – often byproducts of her systems – Hayden Dunham investigates the exchange of information between the hard and soft architectures of building and body. Using silicon, rubber, metal, glass, paints, and minerals as augmentation devices, Dunham’s works embody ideas of transformation and a process of facilitation, where objects are conditioned and supported through their individual internal transformations.

Susanne Hofer turns a lens to mundane moments in her multimedia works, forcing the viewer to reexamine these typically ignored or overlooked spaces. Hofer transforms the photographed or filmed scenes that serve as the basis of her work by editing, animating, or combining them with materials to create larger installations, turning something lifeless and otherwise unseen into enticing illusory worlds.
