Miltos Manetas - Drawings Quasi Paintings

Plutschow Gallery is pleased to present “Drawings Quasi Paintings”, solo exhibition of Greek artist Miltos Manetas. Miltos, who currently lives a nomadic life, will showcase a collection of paintings that Manetas produced directly, without making drawings beforehand.

Born in 1964 in Athens, Greece, Miltos Manetas is a multimedia artist and theorist whose works explore the representation and the aesthetics of the information society. Manetas is the Founder of the Art Movement NEEN, a pioneer of MACHINIMA and an investigator of Internet Art. In 2009 Manetas initiated the Internet Pavilion for the Venice Biennial and from 2011 he directs the MACROeo (eletronicOrphanage at MACRO Museum in Rome). “DRAWINGS QUASI PAINTINGS” features the artist’ most recent body of work, in an attempt to trace the creative process that generated his series of “Cable Paintings”, his “Looking at Computer Screens” series, his “Playing Videogames” paintings and his series of “Internet Paintings”.

He projects onto the empty canvas snapshots he took of particular subjects. Those snapshots, printed on cheap paper, dirty and spotted by colour, are used for this exhibition to represent a stage where certain drawings could have been done before – but are instead made just recently.

According to Lev Manovich, Maneta’ s work can be placed within a well-established tradition in modern painting (representing modern people in their particular modern settings).
