Pascale Birchler - Ich warte auf ein Gewitter / Sound by Dimitri Howald

Last Tango is pleased to present “Ich warte auf ein Gewitter” a solo exhibition by Pascale Birchler. “Ich warte auf ein Gewitter” will be treated as a tableaux. Enchanted by the ambivalence of fragility and strength, Birchler perceptively works with space. The sensory languages of sculpture, painting, installation and sound are interwoven in what becomes an unfolding of a plot, one that relates to the confines of the outside and inside, one that is intimate yet also evasive, like a hauntingly beautiful chord stuck in your mind.

Pascale Birchler (born 1982, Zug, Switzerland) lives and works in Zurich. She received her Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts from HKB Bern. She also studied at HAW Hamburg, Germany, specializing in Illustration & Art. Between 2011 and 2017, she collaborated with her twin sister, Arienne Birchler.

In 2023 she was granted a year-long residency at ISCP in New York. Previous residencies include Berlin (2014), New York (2008) and Jerusalem (2006). Her work is currently on view in the group exhibition “Intergenerational Forms” at Francesca Minini Gallery in Milan. Her most recent group and solo exhibitions include: “Ein Brief aus Glas”, Fragment Gallery, New York, USA (solo, 2023); “L’arcobaleno riposa sulla strade”, Istituto Svizzero, Rome, Italy (2022); “The Pieces I Am”, UCCA Edge, Shanghai, China (2022); Swiss Art Awards, Basel, Switzerland (2021); “A Higher Calling”, White Space, Beijing, China (2021); “Der Rest ist Schweigen”, Project Space Gallery Peter Kilchmann, Zurich, Switzerland, (solo, 2021); “Werkschau 2020” Kanton Zürich, Museum Haus Konstruktiv, Zurich, Switzerland, (2020); “Eine fremde Stunde”, Kunstverein Friedrichshafen, Germany (solo, 2019); “Magma#2”, Shedhalle, Zug, Switzerland (2018).

In 2020 Pascale Birchler was shortlisted for the Shizuko Yoshikawa Advancement Award for Young Women Artists. In October 2024 she will open a solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Luzern. Her work is represented in the art collection of the Canton of Zurich, Canton Zug and Centre PasquArt in Biel.
