CinemArt Screening: Maria Lassnig: New York Films 1970 – 1980
Recently restored by the Maria Lassnig Foundation in close collaboration with the Austrian Film Museum, these experimental films made by Maria Lassnig in 1970s New York offer unprecedented insight into the artist’s life and work. Comprising live-action, animated drawings and documentary footage, ‘Maria Lassnig. New York Films 1970 – 1980’ explores themes central to Lassnig’s practice, such as societal expectations of women, the tensions between public and private life, and questions of technological progress.
“CinemArt” is a film series presented by Hauser & Wirth in collaboration with Arthouse Zürich. A cinematic journey into the art world, this series offers unique views into the lives and work of significant international artists, including a selection connected to Hauser & Wirth’s programme. The selected documentaries feature artists and renowned art world figures including Eduardo Chillida, Peggy Guggenheim, Piet Oudolf, Fabio Mauri, Picasso, Joseph Beuys, Max Bill and Maria Lassnig.
