- Carolee Schneemann: Fresh Blood A Dream Morphology 1983/2004, c-print 46 x 65 1/2 inches
To mark the joint exhibition of Carolee Schneemann’s work at P•P•O•W and Galerie Lelong, “Further Evidence: Exhibit A & B” – which is on view till Saturday, December 3 – Schneemann discusses her work with the art historian Soyoung Yoon, the essayist for the accompanying catalog to the exhibition. Entitled “Exhibit C”, the conversation pivots around the works on display, the critical but lesser-known installations and performances of the 1980’s, 90’s and the present. It emphasizes Schneemann’s continued engagement with the long, violent history of the struggle to control women’s bodies, from the contemporary witch hunt of the “war on cancer” to the daily duress of the “war on terror.”
Soyoung Yoon is Program Director and Assistant Professor of Art History & Visual Studies at the Department of the Arts, Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, the New School. She is also a Visiting Faculty at the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program.
This event is co-sponsored by Carolee Schneemann Foundation.
