Exhibition
in Tokyo / Japan
We are delighted to announce an opportunity in Tokyo to introduce Teppei Takeda’s 8 paintings from Art Basel Hong Kong 2022 presentation, together with a newly painted portrait painting.
The artist’s process begins by producing dozens of drawings, and then selecting one of them as the sketch to work from. He scans the selected drawing and augments its texture in digital form. As he works on the scan to maximize the texture in the digital data, he gives careful consideration to how the visual experience acts on the human mind and the emotions. When this is done, he outputs the digital painting and uses it as the basis for the next stage, where he reproduces the texture of the painting in great detail as a real painting using the sort of fine brushes employed for painting miniatures.
This process gives the painting a distinctive aura and results in a work that is an augmentation of reality. With such a meticulous approach, he needs at least a month of effort to complete each work, and sometimes it can take as long as two months. But spending so much time alone in deep concentration on a single work generates a force of attraction so strong that very few paintings can match it.
Unintentionally, these paintings become a laboratory for conducting experiments on the process whereby people or the systems in the human brain perceive a painting, how they judge it, and how they relate it to the viewer’s own thinking.
