Workshop: Matthew Day Jackson - Pathetic Fallacy

Experimental Printmaking Workshop

Join us for this one day experimental printmaking workshop where you will have the opportunity create your own unique artworks inspired by the exhibition ‘Matthew Day Jackson. Pathetic Fallacy’. Participants will use the idea of ‘pathetic fallacy’ to create their own visual responses to a piece of writing using printmaking. Starting with a descriptive text, we will experiment with several printing processes to explore how we choose to visualise the natural environment.

We will start by discussing the idea of ‘pathetic fallacy’ in literature and then take our printing plates outside to draw in the Oudolf Field at Hauser & Wirth Somerset. By combining printmaking processes, including drypoint, monotype, monoprint and letterpress, you will create multiple prints that explore mark-making, texture, found materials and wooden letter blocks.

This course is suitable for all abilities. A variety of texts will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring along their own material to work from. At the end of the day you can take-home your own unique pieces of artwork that capture emotional descriptions or explore ambiguity in nature.

Tickets £100, include lunch at Roth Bar & Grill.
